Paneer Tacos Recipe — Indian Spiced Vegetarian Tacos

Living in Texas means tacos are a way of life. So naturally I had to give them the Indian treatment! These Paneer Tacos are spiced paneer in warm tortillas with a tangy mint chutney and crunchy slaw — two beautiful cuisines coming together in one perfect bite. These are always a crowd-pleaser at gatherings.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

🍳 Cook Time: 10 minutes

👥 Servings: 2 (6 tacos)

Difficulty: Easy

🍽 Cuisine: Fusion

🥗 Diet: Vegetarian

Ingredients

  • 200g (7 oz) paneer, cut into small cubes or strips
  • 6 small flour tortillas
  • 1 teaspoon tandoori masala
  • ½ teaspoon cumin powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage
  • ½ cup diced tomatoes
  • Fresh coriander and lime wedges to serve
  • Mint chutney or yogurt sauce to serve

Instructions

  1. Season the paneer: Toss paneer cubes with tandoori masala, cumin, paprika, salt, and oil. Mix well to coat.
  2. Cook the paneer: Heat a pan over high heat. Cook paneer for 2-3 minutes per side until nicely charred and crispy on the edges.
  3. Warm the tortillas: Heat tortillas directly on a flame for 10 seconds per side, or in a dry pan.
  4. Assemble: Place paneer in each tortilla. Top with shredded cabbage, diced tomatoes, and coriander. Drizzle with mint chutney.
  5. Serve: Squeeze lime juice over each taco. Serve immediately while warm.

Tips

  • For best results, don’t stir the paneer too much — let it sit and char on each side for the best flavour and texture.
  • Quick mint chutney: blend ½ cup fresh mint, ¼ cup coriander, 1 green chili, juice of 1 lime, pinch of salt, and 2 tbsp water.
  • Try corn tortillas for a gluten-free option.
